The project of “Restoration and demonstration of sacred site culture on biodiversity conservation in Yunnan” is aided financially by Yunnan Provincial Biodiversity Special Fund. Its main methodology is interdisciplinary ethnobotany research methods, basic working way community participation. Based on community co-management projects in natural conservation and ecosystem construction projects at the county and above level, develop project survey and demonstration site. The general objective is to apply indigenous culture to promote biodiversity in-situ conservation at the community level, give full play to multi-ethnic groups’ culture diversity in Yunnan, strength biodiversity conservation at the community level.

Investigate and summarize Han, Dai, Zhuang, Tibetan, Hani, Wa and Yao people’s influence of traditional beliefs of sacred sites and their practical activities to biodiversity in Yunnan, from ecological service function, biodiversity conversation, indigenous knowledge system and community development these four indicators,evaluate the value and function of sacred site for biodiversity conservation, discover and protect rich culture and biodiversity in demonstration sites, including state level one and two protected plants, included plants in IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, included plants in CITES appendix, key plants of protected biodiversity, importantly protected ethnic culture plants, Tibetan medicinal plants and other key ecosystem and species, and promote vigorously the protection and inheritance of seven sacred sites.
